Make Nutritional Smoothies at Home

Don’t be intimidated by the smoothie bar – these nutritional drinks are easy to make at home.

Smoothies are high in dietary fiber, vitamins, and antioxidants – when made with the right ingredients. Maximize the nutritional content of these delicious drinks by using fresh or frozen fruit, non-fat yogurt and/or milk, and protein powder. Here are some easy smoothie combinations:

1.Frozen raspberries, frozen strawberries, banana, plain non-fat yogurt, Goya mango nectar

2. Plain non-fat yogurt or milk, banana, vanilla or chocolate protein powder, low-fat peanut butter

3. Non-fat milk, lowfat Oreos®, sugar-free chocolate syrup, vanilla or chocolate protein powder

4. Fresh pineapple, banana, Goya papaya nectar, ice

5. Frozen Acai concentrate by Sambazon (found in most health food markets), banana, and cranberry juice

Smoothie Tips

* Use frozen fruit as a substitute for ice whenever possible

* Always use non-fat yogurt and milk – light soymilk is also a good option

* Use limited amounts of juice and/or nectar – just enough to get your smoothie to the right consistency

* Protein powder is always optional – creatine can also be substituted.

* Share smoothie recipes in our forum.
